Welcome!
Welcome to our sixth grade class! I are very happy you are here with us. I am excited to be working with you and your child for the 2016-2017 school year.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child throughout the coming year, which surely promises to bring with it many new experiences and challenges. In order to make the year a successful one, teamwork and cooperation will be required by all. As your son or daughterís teacher, it is my goal to help him/her become a confident learner and I will do my best to help make this year a positive experience for your child.

Collaboration, cooperation, and open communication between home and school are keys to building a strong foundation for a successful school year. You may reach me by either contacting the main office, e-mailing me at BDeitsch@flboe.com, sending a note with your child, or by scheduling an appointment. Additionally, the School #3 website has teacher pages where homework and other important information may be found.
Prodigy Math Game
Dear Parents,

We recently signed up to use an exciting new educational game called Prodigy. The game is a fun way for your child to practice their math skills in class and at home!

Learn at home!
Have you ever wished your child was as addicted to learning as they are to video-games? With Prodigy, your child can continue their learning at home, exactly where they left off at school. It takes less than 2 minutes to get started:
1. Visit www.ProdigyGame.com, and click the orange 'Get Your Free Account' button
2. Enter your information to create a free parent account
3. After the feature walkthrough, click 'Link child account'
4. Select 'Add Existing Students'
5. Enter your child's username and password (listed below)
6. You will now get updates on their progress as they play!

Real-Time Reports
Prodigy provides you rich, real-time reports on what your child is learning. This makes it easy to track what math skill they've mastered, and where they may need help. To access reports:
1. Click 'login' in the top right of www.ProdigyGame.com to access your parent account
2. Your dashboard will fill with data about your child's math progress!

Accelerate Your Child's Learning (Optional)
Tutoring programs and Private Tutors can cost hundreds of dollars a month, and aren't particularly fun for kids. Prodigy offers a Premium Membership with additional game features (such as powerful wands, beautiful robes, and virtual pets) starting at less than $5/month.
On average, Premium Members master 84% more math skills than non-members*:
* based on a random sample of 2443 students
Visit www.ProdigyGame.com, and click on the Membership link at the top to get started.

Your Child's Account Information
Your child can visit ProdigyGame.com/Play and use the following information to log into the game.
PARCC Tutorials
http://parcc.pearson.com/tutorial/
The purpose of these tutorials is to demonstrate the navigation and tools available for Computer-Based Assessments and the use of the Test Booklet and Answer Documents for Paper-Based Assessments. The items appearing in these tutorials are samples used to allow students and educators to gain familiarity with the technology platform and paper-based format that will be used for PARCC assessments.
MLK Day
This link will bring you to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream Speech", animated.

Social Studies
We are using the text, technology, and other resources to explain how learning to farm changed the way early peoples lived, describe the development of the first major civilizations in Mesopotamia's river valleys, and describe the rise and fall of the Assyrian and Chaldean Empires.

Mathematics
We are currently focusing on fluently adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation. Also, we are writing and evaluating numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents.
